Imagine a Steam driven Britain in 1897. Bursledon Brickworks in Chandlers ford was producing 20 million bricks a year and provided extensive local employment for around 180 people.
The brickworks was a family run concern until after the Second World War when it amalgamated with the Sussex and Dorking Brick Company and became Redlands in 1959. It remained open until 1974 when a combination of factors, including the decline in quality of the clay, problems with its extraction and increased labour and running costs and the interruption caused by the construction of the M27, meant the works were no longer viable and it was closed.
Twenty years passed and the old brickworks fell into a state of dereliction and were in danger of disappearing altogether, when it was saved and given listed status

The Hellfire caves at West Wycombe, Buckinghamshire are considered to be one of the most haunted locations in the UK. The caves were commissioned by Sir Francis Dashwood and completed in 1752 it had taken 6 years for the workman to finish extending the natural cave system to the half a mile tunnel complex that you can see today. A long winding passage leads past various small chambers to the Banqueting Hall and then over the River Styx to the Inner Temple. The original cave system was thought to have been the site of a pagan alter in ancient times.
Sir Francis Dashwood in his younger years travelled Europe where he was introduced to freemasonry, Sir Francis joined several freemason lodge's on his travels and when he came back to England he decided to start his own society the Monks of Medmenham. The group was only called the Hellfire Club in more recent times. Those involved included Lord Sandwich, John Wilkes, senior aristocrats, statesmen and Benjamin Franklin who was an occasional visitor.#
The Hellfire Club's main activities included drink copious amounts of alcohol debauchery and occult rituals, which were carried out in the inner temple directly 300 feet below St Lawrence's church. These black magic rituals are thought to be one of the reasons for the paranormal activity in the Hellfire Caves.

THE RED LION PUB

HIGH STREET

SOUTHAMPTON

 55 High Street, Southampton, Hampshire, SO14 2NS

IF you’re looking for a pub with a bit of history then look no further.
Dating all the way back to the tenth century (1148) the walls of the building hold many secrets and tales, some stranger than others.
It is well known that Henry V held the trial of the three men who tried to assassinate him in the pub’s ‘Court Room’.
The conspirators were found guilty and executed outside the Bargate in what is one of the most famous trials in this country’s history.
21 ghosts are said to reside here and have been blamed for turning electrical equipment off and on and draining batteries in electrical equipment.
One sighting in particular seems to be causing quite a stir around the place. A grey haired woman, about 60, walks through the bar and stands behind it. A lot of people say it was an old barmaid who fell down the stairs.
What will you find ?

KELVEDON HATCH
SECRET NUCLEAR BUNKER

Kelvedon Hatch Secret Nuclear Bunker
Crown Buildings
Kelvedon Hall Lane
Kelvedon Hatch

Come and witness the three lives of the bunker starting with its role as an RAF ROTOR Station, then a brief period as a civil defence centre through to its most recent life as a Regional Government HQ. Designed for up to 600 military and civilian personnel, possibly even the Prime Minister, their collective task being to organise the survival of the population in the awful aftermath of a nuclear war.

The Bunker had three main lives. Initially as an RAF ROTOR Station and latterly a Regional Government Headquarters, with a brief period in the 1960's as a civil defence centre. There were also spare bunk beds in the tunnel, to help accommodate some of the hundreds of civilian and military personnel that would be stationed here in time of nuclear attack. The bunker was built on land requisitioned from the local farmer J.A.Parrish.

Paradoxically as the heat of the Cold War died down, the bunker and it's ancillary systems were no longer required by the Government, and were costing up to 3 million pounds a year to keep on standby. Upon decommissioning in 1992 the bunker was bought back from the government by the Parrish family, at a closed bid public auction, and hence is now privately owned.
